Nintendo Power: September/October 1988 Issue Sneak Peek

The second issue of Nintendo Power has begun shipping to subscribers across the country. The cover story is none other than Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest and what a doozy of a cover it is. It portrays Simon Belmont holding the severed head of Dracula! The game’s been pushed out to December, but if you want to get a head start (pardon the pun) you can start studying the maps included in the new issue to stake out your mission.

Also included in this issue of Nintendo Power is an extended first look at Capcom’s upcoming Bionic Commando. This game features both side-scrolling action as well as overhead battles (similar to Commando). The really cool part about this semi-sequel is that your character is equipped with a bionic arm. Instead of being able to jump like in every other game out there, you can use your arm as a sort of grappling hook to grab onto platforms and other items. This will allow you to propel yourself up to the next floor or even swing like Tarzan! You can also use your mechanical arm to push enemies back or even grab dropped items. We can’t wait to try this one out later this year!

Sunsoft is promising something special with its upcoming Blaster Master game, coming out just in time for Christmas. This one has you exploring a huge world inside a nimble tank that can blast enemies right out of the sky. With a bunch of power-ups and secrets to find and even areas where you must explore outside the safety of your vehicle, this one could be something special.

In Pak Watch Nintendo officially delivers the bad news that all of us already knew: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link has been delayed again. Right now they plan on having very limited quantities available this November, but much of the country won’t see the game on shelves until January. Luckily there’s plenty of other titles to enjoy!

There’s tons more of games shown off in this latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine. Be sure to subscribe to stay up to date on the games coming to your NES!
