Super Mario Bros. 3 Just 1 Of 5 New Games In PlayChoice 10 Arcade Machines
Nintendo has begun rolling out new NES games to its popular PlayChoice 10 arcade machines nationwide. Well, in reality it’s up to each owner of the arcade machines to pony up the money to get the new games installed, but given the popularity of the new games we think it’ll be a no-brainer.
The five new games that can now be installed on the arcade machines are: Super Mario Bros. 3, Ninja Gaiden, Tecmo Bowl, Fester’s Quest, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Obviously the biggest draw is Super Mario Bros. 3, a game that launched in Japan last October but still doesn’t have a release date in the States. We were lucky enough to play the game at one of our local discount stores, which was incredibly surprising to see.
The game is colorful and vibrant and features a ton of new moves for Mario. For example, he can now stomp on a Koopa Troopa and then pick up the shell and kick it! The biggest addition is Mario’s raccoon tail power-up, which lets him take to the skies and fly around, discovering more coins, new secret areas, and more. We didn’t want to stop playing, but we had other places to go. You can bet we’re heading back to that discount store as soon as we possibly can to get our Mario fix! In the meantime, we came across this ad and article in the August 1989 issue of Vending Times:
