Update: Back Up! Nintendo eShop Down For Maintenance

Good news! The maintenance that took down Nintendo’s eShop has finished sooner than expected. You can once again buy stuff from Nintendo’s digital shop.

Nintendo has announced that the eShop on the 3DS and Wii U will be down for maintenance from 9pm Central time today (Sunday) until 9pm Central time tomorrow (Monday). It’s rare for a vital service like the eShop to be down for 24 hours.
It’s difficult to say why it’s being taking down for so long, but perhaps it has to do with backend server upgrades to get ready for the new Nintendo Account and My Nintendo functionality coming by March 2016. If you’re getting an error trying to log in to eShop services, no need to worry. Just try logging in tomorrow night.
