Mario & Sonic At The Rio 2016 Olympic Games Preview

We’ve got two new commercials from Japan for the game, which launches on February 18. A date has been announced for the U.S. as well. It’s scheduled to hit stores on March 18.

[Original Preview]:

Arriving February 18, 2016 in Japan for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games will feature a wide variety of events and even a full-fledged single-player story mode. Nintendo of Japan has just posted a couple new videos showcasing the 3DS version of the game and how it will interact with amiibo. While the dialog is in Japanese, the videos do a fantastic job of showcasing the various activities.

Perfectly Nintendo has posted the list of official sports in the game, of which there will be 14 in total:

  • 100 metres
  • 110 metres hurdles
  • Long Jump
  • Javelin throw
  • 100 metres Freestyle
  • Archery
  • Boxing
  • Table Tennis
  • Beach Volley
  • Equestrian
  • Rhythmic Gymnastics: Hoop

There will be special Dream Events that are different takes on the sports. Not all of them have been revealed, but here’s what’s known so far:

  • special version of Golf
  • special version of BMX
  • special version of Table tennis (where you have to hit numbers)
  • special version of 100 metres Freestyle (with waves)
  • special version of 100 metres hurdles

In addition, the official site for the game is now up on Nintendo of Japan’s site. The game will release in the U.S. on March 18.
