Rumored NX 2016 Release, Zelda NX & 3DS Launch Lineup Looks Like Real Deal

If you recall, earlier this week we posted two news stories (here and here) detailing rumors that not only would Nintendo’s upcoming platform, the NX, be released this holiday, but so would a port of the Wii U Zelda game. This was originally posted by Metaldave of Nintengen, but over the past day or so his articles were taken down along with his videos discussing these rumors. He claimed to have an inside source inside Nintendo and in fact leaked the entire 3DS lineup for the remainder of 2016. Here’s a refresher of the entire list for 3DS:

3DS release list 2016

Spring – Early Summer

Mario and Sonic Rio 2016

Nintendo Selects Wave 1

Hyrule Warriors Legends

Disney Art Academy

Bravely Second

Code Name: “Caviar F” (casual friendly smaller budget game)

Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Code name: “Torte City” big budget unannounced game for all gamers core/all ages

Dragon Quest VII

Code name: “Cadillac” (casual friendly smaller budget game late summer)

3DS Hardware Price Cut

Code name: “N-Stars” big budget game for all ages

Nintendo Selects Wave 2

Code name: “DMW2” possibly Disney Magical World 2

Dragon Quest VIII

Pokémon 20th Anniversary game “Niji” Japanese translation: “Rainbow”

Now, this is where things get interesting, because his leaks are all turning out to be true. First of all, in his list of upcoming games there was one for Disney Art Academy. Immediately after he posted the story, the following day this game showed up on a retail site and a wholesale site. Another poster on NeoGAF confirmed that a game called Codename: Cadillac was in fact a Style Savvy sequel that had already been released in Japan.

But, perhaps the biggest evidence that these rumors are actually true comes with the announcement of Pokémon Sun and Moon today. Now, on his list he had a 20th Anniversary Pokémon game with Niji as the codename. It turns out, when Nintendo announced the new Pokémon games today, the name of the graphic file for the logo was called “niji”. Nintendo has since changed the file names, but it can’t be a coincidence.

So, what does all of this mean? Well, it seems to corroborate the rumors, which means that NX and Zelda for NX are coming out this holiday! Obviously nothing is set in stone until Nintendo makes an official announcement, and we all know things can get delayed (especially when it comes to Nintendo), but this is definitely promising news. It surely makes 2016 even more exciting than it was shaping up to be.

As for the other codenames on the 3DS upcoming games list, a user by the name of immewnity on NeoGAF has offered up some speculation:

Caviar has been used for Pokémon Rumble titles, so Caviar F is likely Rumble World’s retail release.

Cadillac has been used for Style Savvy / Style Boutique titles, so that’s likely the localization of NSB2.

Stars is used for Mario Party games, so it’s likely N-Stars is a Mario Party title.

DMW was used for Disney Magical World, so DMW2 makes sense for a direct sequel.

Torte City and Niji don’t directly relate to anything that I can find.

Prediction time on the N-Stars title. It’s a Mario Party amiibo game. N referring to NVL, the three-letter identifier for amiibo.

We’ll keep you updated as more is discovered or announced!
