Super Nintendo Games Come To New 3DS

[Updated on 3/8/16 with European SNES Virtual Console Trailer]:

[Original Story]:

It took long enough, but Super Nintendo Virtual Console games are finally available on the eShop. They are only available to those that have the New Nintendo 3DS as the extra horsepower from the faster chips is necessary to run them. There’s also the option to view them in perfect pixel mode, which displays the games in their original resolution.

Available Today

Already available today are the original games that launched with the Super Nintendo way back in 1991: Super Mario World, F-Zero, and Pilotwings. Nintendo promises many more to come and have announced the following:

March 24

Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Kart, and Earthbound will release.

April 14

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest will arrive.

I’m excited to see what else Nintendo decides to put up on the Virtual Console. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll get that Yoshi’s Island port that has eluded the service. I’m not talking about the shoddy GBA port, but a real honest to goodness SNES port. Let’s hope!
