NPD Sales For March 2016

The NPD Group has released U.S. sales data for March. When looking strictly at sales revenue, the gaming industry as a whole didn’t grow from last year with $964.1 million in sales for March 2016 versus $968.4 million for March 2015. Hardware sales took the biggest hit because of reduced prices on consoles versus last year. The good news is that more money is being spent on software (up 8%) and accessories (up 9%).

Nintendo has two Wii U games on the Top 10 list of best selling games last month. Hitting an impressive third place is The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and in seventh place is Pokkén Tournament, which seems to have sold fairly well given it only had a short time to sell before the cutoff. The entire Top 10 list is as follows:

  1. Tom Clancy’s The Division (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  2. Far Cry: Primal (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Wii U)
  4. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PS3, PC)
  5. UFC 2 (PS4, Xbox One)
  6. MLB 16: The Show (PS4, PS3)
  7. Pokkén Tournament (Wii U)
  8. NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, 360, PSe)
  9. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, 360, PS3, PC)
  10. Minecraft (360, PS4, Xbox One, PS3)
