Mario Joins Minecraft May 17

Sure, there aren’t many more Wii U games on the docket, but it helps when one of the most popular titles of all time gets exclusive content only on your system. The rumors were true after all – Mario and gang will be joining the Minecraft universe via an epic free expansion on May 17. Players will have immediate access to the new skins as well as a pre-made Super Mario-themed world and music from the hit series. This new content is inspired by many of the games in the series, including Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario World. All of this content will be available for free via digital download to owners of the digital version of Minecraft for Wii U. When the retail version launches on June 17 all of the content will be available on the disc.

In total, when gamers download the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack they will receive 40 new Super Mario skins. These allow the game’s characters to be morphed into familiar characters like Mario, Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Wario, and the Koopalings, plus many more. There will be 15 pieces of music from Super Mario 64 to give your world an authentic sound to it.

It’s one of the most defining games of a generation, capturing the minds of children across the world. Keeping Mario and friends front and center of that audience is key to growing Nintendo’s business. Read on for the full press release:
