Last summer Square Enix dropped an unexpected bomb when some developers announced at the end of a Dragon Quest live stream that Dragon Quest X and XI were being considered for Nintendo’s upcoming platform, the NX. The company’s PR department quickly spun the news as non-announcements, but I always believed that both would hit the NX.
As it turns out, in the latest issue of Famitsu Weekly the producer and director of Dragon Quest X confirm that it is indeed coming to the NX. The game is currently available on the Wii and Wii U consoles and is able to be streamed to the 3DS. The NX version will be the “climax” of the game and will most likely be version 4 (the current version is 3.3). A new class and a bunch of enhancements will be in this update that’s scheduled for early next year.
This is obviously good news for the NX in Japan, where third party support will be important to the system’s growth. Since we have yet to see Dragon Quest X released in North America, I highly doubt this port of the game will make its way here, especially since it’s an online MMORPG that requires a monthly fee. Still, it’s a good sign that the NX will be getting some heavy hitters.
