Axiom Verge hits Wii U eShop on Sept. 1

Axiom Verge is a love affair to games like Metroid created by a single person over the course of four years. It hit the PS4 last year, and now it’s finally arriving on the Wii U. Since Nintendo refuses to release a 2D Metroid game, this is about as close as you’ll get on the Wii U.

Some enhancements over the PS4 version are the leaderboards in the Speed Rush mode and the utilization of the Wii U GamePad. Not only can you play the game on the GamePad in off-TV mode, but also when you are playing on the TV you’ll have a handy map on the bottom screen showing your location.

I’ve played a couple hours of Axiom Verge on the PS4, and it’s a pretty fun game. Some of the weapons and power-ups seemed a little underwhelming, but to be fair I haven’t played through the entire game so perhaps there are some truly badass items I haven’t encountered. I’m tempted to pick this one up again on the Wii U to support the developer and because I really dig the map on the GamePad.

Axiom Verge will release on the Wii U eShop on September 1, 2016. It will retail for $19.99.
