Pokémon Sun & Moon Are Most Pre-Sold Games In Nintendo History
It’s clear that more than ever before Pokémania has swept the country. It all kicked off earlier this year with the Pokémon 20th Anniversary announcements and the Super Bowl Pokémon Go commercial. Then, when Pokémon Go launched in July it became a phenomenon unlike anything we had seen before.
I guess that’s why it shouldn’t be too big of a surprise to see Pokémon Sun and Moon become the most pre-sold games in Nintendo’s history. Nintendo hasn’t revealed exact pre-order sales data, but it must be very sizable to have done better than games like Zelda: Ocarina of Time or even Pokémon Yellow, which I remember both getting huge reservation numbers.
In addition, the Pokémon Sun and Moon demo on the 3DS eShop was released just last week and already has more downloads than any previous 3DS demo ever. I think it’s safe to say that Nintendo has a hit on its hands.
With a meager holiday lineup this year, Nintendo needs some big wins and it looks like Sun & Moon are set to deliver. If Nintendo can deliver enough copies of the games to the rabid fanbase it could pull out a major win this quarter. The same can be said of the NES Classic Edition, which we have a feeling will be heavily supply constrained in comparison to demand. Let’s hope we’re wrong and that Nintendo ships enough.
