Sonic Mania Preview

Flying Battery Zone & Delay Announcement
Updated 3/17/17

We’ve got some good news and some bad news. The bad news (hey, we may as well rip the band-aid off) is that Sonic Mania is no longer slated for Spring 2017. It’s been pushed back until Summer 2017. Apparently the game just needs a little more time to finish up.

The good news is that Sega showed off a brief snippet of the Flying Battery Zone in Sonic Mania. It’s a refresh from the Sonic 3 level. Enjoy!

Last year Sonic Mania was announced for PC as well as PS4 and Xbox One. It was conspicuously absent from any Nintendo platforms and many, including us, thought perhaps it was being held back for the Nintendo Switch. Lo and behold, we were right!

This 16-bit reimagining stars your favorite blue hedgehog as well as Tails and Knuckles. The game strives to retain that classic 16-bit pixelized look that the Genesis was so known for. Likewise the music is heavily synthesized to replicate the Genesis sound chip. Watching the trailer definitely gives us a nostalgic trip that we appreciate.

Sonic Mania will come out for the Nintendo Switch this spring. It might just be what the Dr. ordered.

2D Sonic is back in an all-new adventure!

Play as Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles as you race through all-new Zones and fully re-imagined classics, each filled with exciting surprises and powerful bosses.  Harness Sonic’s new Drop Dash, Tails’ flight, and Knuckles’ climbing abilities to overcome the evil Dr. Eggman’s robots.  Discover a myriad of never-before-seen hidden paths and secrets!

This all-new experience celebrates the best of Classic Sonic, pushing the envelope forward with stunning 60 FPS gameplay and pixel-perfect physics. Welcome to the next level for the world’s fastest blue hedgehog. Welcome to Sonic Mania.

Developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games in collaboration with SEGA of America, Sonic Mania releases digitally Spring 2017 for Sony PlayStation 4, Microsoft Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Pre-Order the Collector’s Edition now – available only for a limited time!
