We reported earlier that Target stores will be receiving shipments of Nintendo Switch systems next week, and now it’s been announced that GameStop locations will as well. GameStop has issued a news release stating that its stores will begin receiving replenishment of the new consoles as early as Wednesday, March 22. Due to variations in shipping times, not all locations will receive them that day, so it’s best to call ahead to the locations near you to find out more. Keep in mind most employees won’t know exactly when the systems will be arriving until the day before or the day of arrival, so please be patient. If you call today (Friday) they surely won’t have an answer for you yet.
Eric Bright, Director of Merchandising at GameStop said:
GameStop continues to see strong demand from customers who are looking to purchase the Nintendo Switch system. We are meeting this demand by securing additional systems as fast as we can to ensure customers are able to purchase this innovative gaming technology. The customer enthusiasm and response we have seen so far has been incredible as we continue to sell through our supply of systems. We strongly suggest any customer who is still looking to purchase a Nintendo Switch, visit one of our stores as soon as they can. This new allotment will go fast!
The Wall Street Journal has also reported that demand for the Nintendo Switch has far outstripped supply. Due to its initial success, Nintendo has decided to double production of the new system from 8 million to 16 million for its new fiscal year (April 1, 2017 through March 31, 2018).
