SuperData Estimates 2.4 Million Nintendo Switch Consoles Sold In March
Yesterday we found out that Nintendo of America sold an impressive 906,000 Switch consoles in March in just the United States. SuperData, a research firm, has collaborated with Famitsu and Gfk to extrapolate the data from other regions and has announced it expects the Switch to have sold a whopping 2.4 million units last month worldwide. This beat SuperData’s original forecasts and they have now revised the yearly total number of Switches expected to sell up to 7.2 million systems for 2017. They had previously estimated 5 million.
The question on everyone’s mind is whether or not Nintendo can keep the Switch sales momentum going. It does have three first party games releasing over the next three months that are being heavily marketed: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, ARMS, and Splatoon 2 to keep the Switch at the forefront of gamers’ minds. This fall Nintendo hopes to release Fire Emblem Warriors, Super Mario Odyssey, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. There could be another title or two that they are keeping under wraps until E3.
We’re hopeful the system will continue to gain traction and gain new software announcements from third parties and indie developers. With the right marketing and a consistent stream of appealing software, Nintendo just might be back in the game after failing hard commercially with the Wii U.
