It seems as if everyone is hankering for a new Advance Wars. This tends to happen when a new iteration in the franchise hasn’t been released for about ten years. Nintendo Switch owners are getting a couple of games that might help fill the void left by Intelligent Systems. We already previewed a game called Wargroove, which has a similar look and feel to Advance Wars, but focuses on medieval combat instead of modern vehicles and weapons.
Enter Tiny Metal from AREA 34, a small Japanese company initially tried to get this game Kickstarted, but had to come together and fund their dream project together. Tiny Metal has a modern day look to it, with a unique cartoon style aesthetic. It’s a turn-based strategy game where you must roll out your tanks and troops and grow your team to gain control of territory.
Much like Advance Wars, Tiny Metal has an overhead map where you move your team members into position. When you go to attack the enemies, the screen zooms in and shifts to a 2D side view of the action. In total, there will be 13 unique units and fresh gameplay mechanics. The campaign is expected to last around 8 to 10 hours. As of now, it appears the game will focus on the single player experience.
