End Of An Era: Miiverse Comes To A Close
Although the Wii U is considered a failure from a financial point of view, many gamers that owned one appreciated the games and the services it provided. One of the most unique and entertaining features was Miiverse. This communications system was sort of like a forum where Wii U owners could post comments, screens, ask for help, and view tips from other users. Each game had its own Miiverse, and you could easily access it while playing a game by pressing the Home button. It was quite fun to post screens as I played through games, and it served as sort of a picture journal, chronicling the games you were playing at any given time.
Of course, the real star of Miiverse were the talented artists that would create absolutely amazing pieces of artwork via the Wii U GamePad. The amount of time and care that went into many of these pictures is really astonishing, and to this day it’s fun to look at various drawings.
It’s unfortunate then, that Nintendo has decided to pull the plug on Miiverse once and for all. The service will be ending at 10pm PST on November 7, 2017. Nintendo knows that users have fond memories of the service and many spent hours and hours of time creating pieces of art and communicating with one another. Thankfully it’s allowing users download all of the posts they’ve made to a PC. It’s sad that this is shutting down, but at least you can keep your memories forever. Full details are below:
At 10pm PST on November 7th, the Miiverse service will be discontinued.
You will no longer be able to access Miiverse from the Wii U console, Nintendo 3DS family of systems, or from an internet browser on PCs or smart devices. All Miiverse services will become unavailable, such as viewing or making posts, and messaging with friends.
For a limited time, however, you’ll be able to request a download of all the posts you’ve made up to the day of the closure.
To find out more about this service or to make a download request, click on the “Information on Downloading your Post History” button at the top of the Miiverse website. Please note: to use this download service, you will need to have a Nintendo Account linked with your Nintendo Network ID, and must make the download request before the Miiverse service ends.
From all of us at Nintendo, we sincerely thank you for supporting Miiverse all these years.
