The Mummy Demastered Details
On the surface, The Mummy Demastered has a huge uphill battle to sell well. Not only did the movie this game is loosely based on flop hard at the theaters, but as a movie-licensed game it carries the perception that it could very well be shovelware. It’s only when you dig a little deeper that the game begins to show signs of greatness. The game’s developer, WayForward, has made classics like Shantae and DuckTales Remastered. The game is a 16-bit Metroidvania sidescrolling shooter that combines elements from Aliens and Contra. Plus, it borrows the idea from Zombi U where if you die you play a new character, but the items you had with you are now with your old resurrected self. You want those guns back? You’ll have to hunt down your old self and take them by force.
The Mummy Demastered is coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop later this fall. The teaser trailer looks really good, but for way more information be sure to check out the awesome feature on Polygon where they talk with the developers about how the game came to be and the intricacies of gameplay.
