Mario Movie Confirmed By Nintendo President; Hopes To Share More Soon
You might recall that a few months ago rumors leaked that a new feature film starring Mario is in the works. The speculation was that Illumination, the people behind Despicable Me, were the possible partners in creating the new movie, with Universal producing. This would line up with Nintendo’s partnership with Universal for its upcoming Super Nintendo World theme parks.
Up until now all of that was just rumor, but now Mr. Kimishima, President of Nintendo, has confirmed to Japanese newspaper Kyoto Shimbun that a Mario movie is moving forward and he hopes that an agreement will be reached with a partner in the near future. He would like to announce that deal as soon as possible and if the schedule holds have the movie out in 2020.
We also know that more details on its theme parks is supposed to be forthcoming this year as well. Nintendo has been busy reaching agreements to expand its licenses. These are just two examples of amping up their brand recognition.
