SNK 40th Anniversary Collection Comes To Nintendo Switch This Fall
Now here’s a fantastic surprise for Switch owners! SNK 40th Anniversary Collection has just been announced to release this fall for Nintendo’s console. This brand new compilation will contain multiple games from the SNK brand, with most of them arcade and NES ports from the ’80s. In other words, no NEO GEO games are in this package, which is understandable since many of them are already available as separate purchases via the eShop.
Now, not all of the games to be included in this package have been announced yet. So far 13 have been confirmed and I must admit I am extremely excited to see the inclusion of Crystalis! This NES game was a Zelda clone, but had its own great story and mechanics and remains a sort of lost gem on the 8-bit system. There was a sort of remake for the Game Boy Color, but the NES version is a nice get for this compilation. Even better is that all of the games will feature modern options, like rewind and save features anytime while playing. The graphics will be updated to 1080p and redesigned control scheme options will also be available.
Another amazing inclusion are both the arcade and console versions of the titles that released on both. This is fantastic because many times the arcade versions are fun novelties to mess around with, but often it was the NES games that included more replay value and sometimes included extra options and stages. It will be fun to play both versions to see which are more fun.
Here’s the full list of games included so far, with more to be announced in the lead up to launch this fall. We can’t wait!
1. Alpha Mission (Console/Arcade)
2. Athena (Console/Arcade)
3. Crystalis (Console)
4. Ikari Warriors (Console/Arcade)
5. Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road (Console/Arcade)
