Super Mario Odyssey Crosses 10 Million Sold As List Of Switch Million-Sellers Grows
Nintendo has found tremendous success with its Switch console and first year lineup of games. In just 13 months Nintendo has eight titles that have sold over a million copies each. Looking closer at some of the data reveals just how successful some of these evergreen games have been.
Leading the pack in the sales department is Super Mario Odyssey with 10.41 million sold. That means almost 60% of Switch owners have purchased this excellent game.
Another impressive data point is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 9.22 million sold in under a year on the market. The Wii U version only managed to shift 8.42 million, and keep in mind that for much of its shelf life the game was included for free as a bundle with Wii U hardware in the States.
If we combine the Wii U and Switch sales of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, then it’s now the best selling Zelda game of all time, surpassing the “greatest game of all time” Ocarina of Time. Granted, if we factor in all of the re-releases of Ocarina it would beat Breath of the Wild, but that’s not exactly fair, is it?
Splatoon 2 continues to sell well with over 6 million now in the marketplace. The game has been incredibly popular in Japan, and with continuous free updates and events, we expect this one to continue to sell.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has hit 1.31 million sold, making it one of the best selling Xeno-games of all time. Does that mean we’ll get another sequel? We sure hope so!
Finally, it’s important to note that with just a few weeks of sales under its belt, Kirby Star Allies managed to shift 1.26 million copies! It’s the best debut for a Kirby game in over 15 years.
