Famicom Mini Gets New Golden Release With New Games

The Famicom Mini (NES Classic Edition in the U.S.) is getting a special edition release on July 7 in Japan. The console will look identical to the original except it will be painted gold. More importantly, the games that are included on the system are completely different from the original release. This is in celebration of Weekly Shonen Jump’s 50th anniversary. The list of games include:

  • Tag Team Match: MUSCLE
  • Dragon Quest
  • Fist of the North Star
  • Dragon Ball: Shenron no Nazo
  • Kinnikuman: Kinnikusei Oui Soudatsusen
  • Saint Seiya: Ougon Densetsu
  • Captain Tsubasa
  • Saint Seiya: Ougon Densetsu Kanketsu-hen
  • Sekiryuuou
  • Famicom Jump: Hero Retsuden
  • Sakigake!! Otokojuku Shippuu Ichi Gou Sei
  • Ankoku Shinwa: Yamato Takeru Densetsu
  • Tenchi wo Kurau (Destiny of an Emperor)
  • Hokuto no Ken 3: Shin Seiki Souzou Seiken Retsuden
  • Dragon Ball 3: Gokuden
  • Captain Tsubasa 2
  • Dragon Ball Z: Kyoushuu! Saiyajin
  • Magical Taluluto-kun: Fantastic World
  • Famicom Jump II: Saikyo no Shichinin
  • Rokudenashi Blues

Nintendo of America has previously promised that the NES Classic Edition would once again be made available sometime during the summer of 2018. We had assumed that the games would be identical to the ones from before, and we think it most likely will, but with Japan changing things up we’ll have to wait and see.
