Nintendo is no stranger to revamping its hardware, especially when it comes to its handhelds. It may come as little surprise to hear then that they may have a new revamp in the works for the Switch. According to the Wall Street Journal, a new model of Switch will arrive in the second half of 2019.
Now, before you get all excited that we’ll be seeing a “Pro” version of the Switch like Sony delivered with the PS4 (more powerful graphics), it’s more likely Nintendo is looking at efficiency here. The WSJ has heard that Nintendo is still preparing the new device and deciding what features and specs to utilize. Right now the general theory seems to be it might include slightly better screens (right now they’re plastic so maybe they’d move to glass?) and maybe make the device even thinner or lighter.
Of course we don’t know exactly what to expect just yet. The Switch will be just over 2 years old by mid-2019 so it could be ripe for a slight revamp. This could also be a cost-cutting measure to try and lower the retail price. We’ll keep you updated!
