April 2019 NPD Sales Results
April’s sales results for the U.S. video game market have been announced, and for the most part they’re looking pretty solid. The total gaming market came in at $842 million, up 1% over last April. Making up that number is hardware at $160 million, which is significantly lower than last year (29%). Software was up 15%, coming in at $427 million. Accessories brought in $256 million for the month (up 5%). The overall industry is 2% down year to date when compared to 2018.
Mortal Kombat 11 takes top honors for being the number one selling game for April. In fact, it was the best selling game across all platforms, including the Nintendo Switch! This is the first time since Mario + Rabbids that a third party game has secured the number one spot on Switch.
