Wireless Super Nintendo Controller Points To Possibility Of SNES Switch Games
It’s been long rumored that Nintendo might begin including Super NES games in its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, and today we might be one step closer to reality. A posting on the FCC’s site has revealed that Nintendo has filed for approval for what appears to be a Super Nintendo style wireless controller. What’s interesting is that the model number is HAC-042, and the HAC means it’s for the Switch.
Last year Nintendo released wireless NES controllers for the Switch to support the NES games on the online service. It stands to reason that they might follow suit with Super NES controllers, leading many to speculate that an announcement is forthcoming. Also revealed is that the battery is the same one used in Joy-Con controllers and that the controller will come with a 1.5 meter charging cable, making it unlikely that it will directly connect to the Switch like the NES pads do. This also makes sense with the Switch Lite launching soon, which doesn’t include the ability to attach/detach controllers.
We are quickly approaching the one year anniversary of the launch of the Switch Online service, so that would be the perfect time to introduce more games to the service. Let’s hope so!
