Warp Zone Podcast: June 1992

June of 1992 showed a lot of promise for the future of video games. The Super Nintendo was finding its footing with a bunch of new games released up to this point and many gamers no doubt still plowing through the amazing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. The Genesis was still selling well thanks to price drops and a strong software lineup.

Then there were all sorts of other gaming systems and add-ons either announced or rumored. From the Super Nintendo CD-ROM (which was supposedly releasing 7 months later in January for only $199) to the Sega CD, which was coming out at $299 this holiday, to the Atari Jaguar, 3DO, and PlayStation all but confirmed at this point. The only question remaining was whether or not the video game industry could support all of these upcoming machines. The answer, of course we know now, is that it absolutely could not and we’d see some of them fail and others not even launch. No matter what, it was an exciting time to be a gamer and the future looked brighter than ever.
